胡教练拥有近 35 年的剑龄，包括 25 年的教练经历，和 10 年的专业运动员生涯。胡教练自 2004 年移民加拿大后，曾在多伦多大学击剑队和多家多伦多击剑俱乐部任教。自 2008 年起，成为加拿大国家队女子重剑教练组主要成员，并前后培养出 10 多位成绩优异的加拿大青少年国家队选手。他们其中有多位选手因优异的击剑成绩而获得美国常春藤学校及其他世界一流大学的特招，包括哈佛大学、耶鲁大学、宾西法尼亚大学、康奈尔大学、杜克大学、西北大学，多伦多大学、西安大略大学、加拿大女皇大学等。
在移民加拿大前，胡教练曾担任北京击剑队男子重剑组主教练，并于 2001 年至 2004 年间担任中国国家队男子重剑组教练，期间他的学生获得了 2004 年雅典奥运会的亚军。胡教练曾是中国国家击剑队男子重剑组主力成员，并拥有国家健将级运动员称号。
